The Lunar New Year calendar dates back to 2600 BCE and was implemented by the great emperor Huang Di. Huang Di himself was incredibly interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine and was a great student of herbology and acupuncture. He introduced the first cycle in the Chinese Zodiac. And to this we celebrate!!!
This year the lunar New Year is particularly auspicious because it also falls on St. Valentine's Day. It is, by the Chinese lunar Calendar the year 4708.
The tiger is one of the most caring and thoughtful signs in the Chinese zodiac. Tigers are very vocal about societies rights and wrongs, and have a strong sense of righteousness. Tigers are fierce protectors to those that they love, and the innocent. Children, friends and loved ones are fortunate to have a Tiger close to them.
2010 will be a triumphant year for the Tiger. Obstacles will be easily overcome and the Tiger will shine!
Tiger years are 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998
Happy Chinese New Year!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!
As the holiday season is upon us, with the added joys that accompany the festivities and merriment, also can come added stress and unwelcome weight gain.
Remember, it is normal to gain a little weight in winter months. Out door activities decline with the cold weather, rich seasonal foods are enjoyed in abundance, festivities take up much of the month...Let us help you stay on track.
Immune support is important, as well as staying in a calm and peaceful state. We will work with you to maintain your health goals and nutritional goals throughout the winter months. Certain acupuncture points and herbal prescriptions can help alleviate food cravings and unwanted snacking urges. We can even prescribe a customized herbal formula to help you shed unwanted pounds.
Most importantly is to stay happy and healthy, control portion sizes, get plenty of rest and enjoy yourself.
Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season!

Fall is upon us!
As the beautiful summer days have ended, and the leaves are changing, we must prepare ourselves for the winter months by making adjustments to our late summer routines.
Autumn in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), is a time when you may start to see colds creeping up on you, and coughing, sneezing and even just feel a little more fatigued. Autumn is the time of the lung, and the element metal. It is the emotion of sadness. The lung in TCM dominates the skin, so with lung dryness you may see skin dryness and other chronic skin ailments. Our bodies biorhythm is telling us to slow down, keep warm and conserve our energy so as we may awaken fresh with the spring thaw.
The lungs help circulate the whole body qi, so keeping your lung qi strong will certainly help power you through the fall and winter months.
What can you do to help nourish your lungs? Enjoy a nice dish of poached pears and barley with honey. Pears nourish the lungs and moisten dryness, barley helps to tonify the spleen qi and drain dampness, while honey acts as a lung moistening ingredient as well.
It's very simple. Cut the pears in two, scoop out the middle and put in the barley and honey mixture. Put the pears in a shallow dish with just enough water and poach them on low heat, adding more water carefully AROUND the pears as needed, but to not soak them. When they are nice and hot and soft, they are ready to be enjoyed!
Some other really great things to enjoy are cinnamon and ginger, two of my favorite ingredients. Buy some fresh ginger root in your local produce section and some raw organic honey.
Peel about an inch off of the ginger root, then cut off the newly peeled slice. Cut that piece into thin slices and boil in 16oz of fresh pure water. When the liquid starts to turn golden in color, pour the hot liquid carefully into your tea mug and add a tablespoon of raw honey. Sip slowly and enjoy. This simply elegant tea will warm even the coldest bodies. It is spicy and sweet, and sure to awaken your digestion and comfort your soul.
In addition to staying warm and dry, practice deep relaxation breathing. This will strengthen the lungs while oxygenating the body. Get plenty of rest and make sure to up your intake of citrus fruits rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Listen to your body, if you are tired, sleep. If you are hungry, eat. The body is a beautifully intelligent design. It knows what it needs, and the more we listen to what it wants, the healthier we grow!
To good health!

Welcome to Golden Leaf Community Acupuncture
Golden Leaf Community Acupuncture is open!
We are located in beautiful Berkeley, California on Ellsworth at the corner of Channing Way.
I'm Dr. Jamie Hampton, DAOM, L.Ac, and my partner is Dr. Anahita Forati, DAOM, L.Ac.
She and I both have extended studies at hospitals throughout China, and saw the magic and effectiveness of treating many many patients for little money. We had an idea that transcended the current state of health care as we know it here in the US.
Our story is simple.
One day back in May, 2009, we decided on Golden Leaf Community Acupuncture. We both believe that is a crime that good people are being turned down by health insurance agencies for just living and trying their best.
We believe that everyone deserves to be healthy, that everyone deserves to live their lives, and that going bankrupt from medical treatments is criminal.
Golden Leaf Community Acupuncture is the future of health care.
Our combined specialties are Oncology Support, Pain Management, Sport Injuries and Women's Primary Care. We both have had extensive experience treating these and a myriad of other medical conditions.
Golden Leaf Community Acupuncture Clinic is a sliding scale clinic that allows for extremely affordable health care. Our sliding scale is $20-50 dollars. The idea is, we see you more frequently, so you can experience the profound effects of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine in a comfortable, clean and quiet environment.
Our plan is to not only treat, but also to educate about traditional Chinese medicine as we go along, so please, bring your questions, and be prepared to experience Golden Leaf Community Acupuncture.
Let's get excited about "change". Now is the time to live and be healthy!
